Update and Options for the 2020-21 School Year

As the school year winds down, I want to share some information and updates as we work on plans for educating students in the fall. Please take a moment to watch the below video for details on our plans for the 2020-21 school year.

LVUSD will offer two options for 2020-21: in-person instruction on school campuses and a virtual academy. For the on-campus instruction, we are working to open our campuses for in-person instruction on August 19, 2020, as scheduled. While we understand campus life will look different, we are beginning to make preparations so our students and staff can return to school in accordance with safety and health guidelines provided by local county health officials.  We are working to have finalized plans for on-campus instruction shared with you late in July or early August. We will be working on safety enhancements all summer.

LVUSD will offer a virtual academy this fall.  The Virtual Learning Academy will be exclusively digital, and allow students to experience “LVUSD at home”.  We have learned much over the past three months, we will incorporate best practices, guided by research, and in collaboration with other institutions that have proven virtual learning.  Our Academy will include a platform that delivers rigorous direct instruction of standards-aligned, and District-adopted curriculum. Additionally, we will provide authentic assessments and sustained levels of student and staff support. We will emphasize regularly connecting with students to meet their social-emotional needs. There will be a consistent and regular schedule of learning for our students.

We have constructed a website for our new Virtual Learning Academy at VirtualAcademyLVUSD.org. We encourage all families to explore the website and learn more about the virtual school. Applications to attend the Academy will be available on the website through July 31st, however, we encourage those who are certain they want to enroll in this model for the 2020-21 school year to do so as soon as possible. We’ll be hosting virtual information sessions and Q and A’s throughout the summer. Please be sure to read This Week in LVUSD each Sunday which will have this important info. If you do not receive this email each Sunday, please email support@lvusd.org for assistance.

On behalf of the Board of Education, we thank you for your continued partnership and support.  Please know that the entire LVUSD team is committed to providing your children with an excellent education during these challenging and changing times.  I hope you all have a great weekend and wish you the best in the final week of the 2019-20 school year.
