LCMS Student Receives Letter of Recognition from President Barack Obama

Pranav Kalyan, an eighth grade student at Lindero Canyon Middle School who has already received two associates degrees from Moorpark College and a technology certification from Microsoft, received a letter of recognition from President Barack Obama regarding his work with fellow students as the founder of the Agoura Math Circle. This Saturday morning math class has grown from just 5 students in Kalyan's garage to a roster of 180 students who can attend the classes now held at Agoura High School.

In his letter, President Obama commends Kalyan for "trying hard in school, dreaming big dreams, and improving our communities." He continues on to wish Kalyan the best, noting "I expect big things from you."

Kalyan also received attention from local news reporter Amy Johnson of CBS Channel 2. In this profile of People Making a Difference, Kalyan describes the Agoura Math Circle and why he started it.
