#LVReads Summer Reading Program
#LVReads is a summer reading program for all students from preschool through high school. The program’s main goal is to create confident and capable readers who find JOY in reading. Components of #LVReads include:
Have your students join us for some fun as we launch #LVReads 2020 with Mark and Obediah from Shows That Teach. This virtual assembly will discuss the importance of a growth mindset and will be livestreamed to our students next Wednesday at 9:30 am. Students will need to be logged into their LVUSD google account to view this event. Please click on the attached flyer for additional information.
Virtual Author Visits and Assemblies (Every Wednesday at 9:30, all Summer Long)
We have created an incredible line-up of authors including Frank Cole, J. Scott Savage, Jessica Day George and Jennifer Neilsen, who will be virtually visiting with our students this summer. Author visits will be held on Wednesday mornings at 9:30. Please check our calendar on LVUSD's Community 360 page for the most up to date information on these events and for the links to access the assemblies. Authors will be announcing writing contests and reading promotions at these events.
You've asked us and here it is! We have worked with teachers, librarians, and parents to compile a collection of free digital resources for students that will be available over the summer. These resources will keep students motivated, learning, and having fun. Please take the time to listen and/or add a story to our growing #LVReads Flipgrid Collection of read-alouds from members of our LVUSD Community. For our TK-1st grade students who had been "reading with their ears" by watching Heggerty Phonemic Awareness videos, you may want to share additional At-Home Activities.
Back by popular demand! These titles have been selected by teachers, librarians, and parents, and are organized by interest and reading level to keep students engaged. Along with the booklists, we'd like to specifically highlight the social justice books found here, many of which we have in our elementary libraries. The City of Calabasas Library has created an “LVUSD Social Justice” shelf in the Cloud Library. Students can access these materials by using their Student ID number for their username and password. You can also find many of these titles in digital format on Epic as well. We'd like to thank our teachers, librarians, and parent community for reaching out to help bring these titles to the surface and donating copies to our school libraries.
We want to encourage our family, staff, and secondary students (age 13 and older) to showcase their reading, and have created a summer social media challenge. You can all participate by posting pictures that celebrate reading and tagging us at #LVReads on FB, Instagram and Twitter. Be creative! Share your favorite quote, show us where you like to read, and give us your book recommendations. There will be a prize drawing for participation.
