#LVUSDReads

Students who read books over the summer improve their reading skills, reduce summer learning loss, and improve critical thinking skills. Most importantly, these students report feeling healthier and happier! Here are some opportunities for families to include more reading and learning in their summer activities.

#LVReads Book Lists: These lists are organized by reading level (Beginning, Transitional, Developing, Independent and Young Adults) and cover all grade levels. Each of these books has been carefully selected by teachers and librarians based on reviews by credible organizations and popularity.  You can find these books at our local libraries.

Digital Resources - Elementary and Secondary

We have created lists of FREE digital resources available for summer enrichment. Check out the LVUSD SORA Digital Library.  Students can access digital books by selecting their library (Las Virgenes Unified School District) and entering their student email address.

Community Programming

Visit our local libraries for fun activities all summer long.  The Calabasas Library’s Online Summer Reading Program “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” runs from June 28 through July 31.  On Tuesday, June 28, from 11:00 pm to 5:00 pm, stop by the Calabasas Library to sign up for the Summer Reading Program and pick up a special craft kit.  On Wednesdays throughout the month of July, Calabasas Library will be hosting special virtual and in-person events such as Bubblemania, Magician Shawn McMaster, Variety Show with Christopher Yates and Craig Newton's Music. The Los Angeles County Library will also be hosting an online summer reading program called Summer Discovery. More information on these programs is attached to this email.

If you can’t get to the public libraries, students can access hundreds of digital books from the Cloud Library.  Make sure you click on “kids or teen” to find titles for students.  To check-out these books, students should use their student ID number as their username and password.

All of this information has been added to our website and can be accessed HERE.  Please share it with students and families and encourage them to participate in summer reading. Thanks for all you do for our students.  Here's to a great summer of reading and relaxation!
