Rose Dunn, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent of Personnel

Dr. Dunn has been with the Las Virgenes Unified School District for twenty-plus years. During that time, she has served the District in many capacities. Her positions as elementary school teacher, President of the Las Virgenes Educators Association, principal, and Director of Instruction have uniquely qualified her to fulfill the varied and essential leadership roles of Assistant Superintendent of Personnel. She has served on District negotiating teams for over 20 years and is a firm believer that collaboration with all stakeholders is the only way to ensure our students achieve educational excellence and are people of outstanding character.

As a teacher, Dr. Dunn focused upon the development of the whole child and was an early adopter of Developmentally Appropriate Program changes. She served as a leader of the elementary principal team for eight years and helped to build academically successful programs. In her five years as Director of Instruction, Dr. Dunn helped develop a number of successful programs including the Mariposa School of Global Education, a successful alternative K-8 school; the Sumac L-STEM academy, which includes a dual language strand; the Las Virgenes Academy Home School Program; and significant advances to our gifted student programs, particularly at the middle school level. During this time, she also played a key role in elementary staffing, reductions in force, writing job descriptions, hiring and termination, Skelly hearings, observation and evaluations, and District Office team building.

The Personnel Department staff hires, develops and motivates employees who will be responsible for the achievement of the District’s goal of excellence in education and outstanding citizenship. They work with staff members to assist them in reaching their highest potential. This begins with recruitment and selection of highly trained 21st century communicators, matching their skills with the District’s needs, and ensuring they get appropriate feedback and training. The Personnel Department ensures effective two-way communication with all employee groups and facilitates the collective bargaining process.
