A lifelong member of the Las Virgenes Unified community since his first day of school as a student at White Oak Elementary, Mr. Scifres has served in various roles in Las Virgenes since 2005. Most recently, he was the principal of Bay Laurel Elementary School in Calabasas. Mr. Scifres was instrumental in furthering the school’s positive climate with staff and students, made evident in an increase in student perception of safety and positive adult relationships in recent Health Child Survey results.

Prior to his work at Bay Laurel, Mr. Scifres taught English at Agoura High School and spent time coaching both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams. At Calabasas High School he worked as the Vice Principal and oversaw the performing arts program, ASB student government, and led various other instructional and intervention leadership projects.

Mr. Scifres is an adjunct professor for the Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University where he earned both his Master of Arts in Education & Teaching Credential, and his Master of Science in Administration and Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. He graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

As a member of the district’s leadership team, Mr. Scifres will directly oversee some principals, and lead several special programs, including athletics, Career Technical Education, English learner programs, and reading intervention. Mr. Scifres will also supervise unique LVSUD offerings such as Outdoor Education, the GATE and Honors program, and 4th & 5th grade Science.

Mission:

Directs and supports the District’s PK-12 educational program. Responsible for the supervision of principals, curriculum development, and implementation of the PK-12 instructional program.  Oversees counseling services, curriculum adoptions, assessments, state and federal programs, and college and career centers. Provides leadership in revision of curriculum in alignment with California Standards and selection of instructional materials. Serves as a member of the District management team and the Superintendent’s cabinet.
