We continue to remain in close communication with our County Fire Officials, law enforcement and area school districts as we monitor the high winds and fires in the surrounding area. All LVUSD schools are open and unaffected by nearby fires, but if anything changes, please monitor your email and LVUSD social media for updates and information. Please be patient with staff, as a number of them live in Ventura County and may be impacted or have family, impacted by the fires and smoke. Thank you for taking extra time and care when driving to school.

Tis the Season! Winter recess is a great time for cozying up with a new book. Reading books stimulates children's imaginations and expands their understanding of the world. It also helps students develop language and listening skills, which prepare them to better understand the curriculum. Our Winter 2017 #LVReads Edition (attached here) offers some great suggestions for students who want to keep learning over the break. In this list, we offer four book selections for students in each of our reading categories ranging from beginning reader to young adults. We also highlight books that promote a "Positive Mindset," one of LVUSD's Student 360 goals

Ms. Hernandez, Sumac's very own full time school counselor, delivers informative and engaging lessons to students in every grade. Last week and this coming week, Ms. Hernandez reviews with students who she is, her role, and how she can help. She also reviews when students may need help from the counselor and how to ask a teacher to plan a visit. Parents can seek help from the counselor as well. Remember Ms. Hernandez is here to help! We are grateful to have such a talented and enthusiastic educator on our support team.
