Announcements for Thursday, April 19th, 2018
Sumac’s PFA is excited to host this year’s JOG WARS Jog-a-thon! It is our goal to bring our community together to raise $40,000 to keep Sumac’s special programs such as PE, STEAM, Music, and Library alive! Thanks to the generous support of local community businesses and the Sumac PFA’s decision to once again not use a third-party to host this event, nearly all of the pledged donations will go directly to supporting our Sumac programs! Join us in supporting our students and help us reach our 2018 goal of $40,000!
Sumac's very own Mrs. Birkett was just named Teacher of the Month for the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Birkett is an inspiration to her students and an asset to the school and district. She is loved by her colleagues. We are so very proud of her deserving recognition.
We are proud to host Pepperdine scholar athletes and representatives from the American Heart Association in our assembly to begin our Jump Rope for Heart Challenge. Sumac has partnered with the AHA for over a decade to garner donations for their wonderful cause. Our message to students is simple: eat heathy, drink water, and exercise every day. Materials will go home on Friday and our event will be in the morning of Wednesday, Match 14th. Sumac's main spring fundraiser, our Jog-A-Thon, will take place later this year.
Author Brandon Mull will be speaking to Sumac 3rd through 5th grade students on Friday, March 23rd at 9:30 AM. Brandon Mull has worked as a comedian, a filing clerk, a patio installer, a movie promoter, a copywriter, and briefly as a chicken stacker. For a couple of years, he lived in the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile, where he learned Spanish and juggling. He currently lives in Utah in a happy little valley near the mouth of a canyon with his four children and dog named Buffy. Brandon is the #1 New York Times best-selling author of the Fablehaven, Beyonders, and Five Kingdoms series. Visit Brandon at BrandonMull.com.
