Congratulations to Julie Birkett, winner of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce "Teacher of the Year" in LVUSD. Perfect for Staff Appreciation Week! Well-deserved! Thanks to the Chamber members and Senator Henry Stern for this regional recognition.
Every child made strides today in grit and perseverance. We were so proud of each finisher. We are also so grateful of the outpouring of support, both of time and financial energy, from so many. We were able to make it to just over 60% participation. Way to go Sumac. May the 4th be with you!
What a blast we had as we had the opportunity to have Symphonic Adventures via the Music Van April 2017, sponsored by New West Symphony, visit Sumac. Thank you to grades 3-5 teachers for recruiting parent volunteers to assist students as they tried musical instruments from the symphony. This is a wonderful musical "petting zoo" where it's ok to blow it or bow it.
Robin Frank is OUR reading specialist and ELD teacher. She is intelligent, kind, supportive, always positive, and a leader. She has helped thousands of students learn to read. She is a leader in supporting English Learner and intervention services in LVUSD. Frank began her career in 1995 as a bilingual Kindergarten teacher and has served as an English Language Development teacher and Reading Intervention Specialist. She was an important advocate for initiating OUR Dual Immersion Taskforce, securing a specific Dual ELA program adoption, and for obtaining and implementing intervention materials. Upon the announcement of the employees of the year, Stepenosky remarked “They are all tremendous educational leaders. Their dedication, passion, and leadership are phenomenal.”
