Permits present an exciting choice for parents who want to make sure their children receive the best education possible within the award-winning district of LVUSD. We invite students from outside the district to apply to join the school community through a straightforward application process. Our schools eagerly embrace students from near and far until we've reached our capacity, ensuring that every child gets a warm and inclusive welcome to our educational family. Important information below:
- Permit applications open October 1st for the 2025-2026 school year.
- Early decision application deadline is December 18th. Submitting an early decision application will provide families with certainty of placement (if available) by January.
- Following the early decision deadline, we roll into our traditional permit timeline. Permit applications will close March 1st.
- Requests received after the March 1st deadline will be reviewed and/or processed through a rolling admissions process and be based on availability via a waitlist.
There are three types of permits offered:
School of Choice Permits: This permit is for families who reside within LVUSD borders and current students who would like to attend a different LVUSD school. This includes students who live outside the district and were previously released from their home district in a prior year and have been permitted to attend LVUSD.
Incoming Interdistrict Permits: This permit is for families who reside outside of LVUSD boundaries and wish for their student(s) to attend a LVUSD school. After a family is approved for a permit by LVUSD, they must also obtain a release from their district of residence to complete enrollment.
Outgoing Interdistrict Permits: This permit is for families who reside within LVUSD boundaries and wish to attend a school outside of the Las Virgenes Unified School District.

School of Choice
This permit is for families who reside within LVUSD borders and current
students who would like to attend a different LVUSD school. This includes
students who live outside the district and were previously released from
their home district in a prior year and have been permitted to attend LVUSD.
Many LVUSD schools are at full capacity. Applying for a School of Choice
permit is not a guarantee of transfer to the requested school, but we will
make every effort to accommodate the request.
How do I apply for a school of choice permit?
LVUSD is no longer accepting permit applications for the 24-25 school year. If you feel you have extenuating circumstances, you can email your request to permitinfo@lvusd.org and we will review requests on a case by case basis.
Step 1: Fill out a 25-26 School of Choice Permit Application HERE between October 1st to March 1st.
Step 2: Submit the required documents if applicable.

Please include your Permit Request Number on ALL communication sent to the District.
A complete application must include:
Current and last TWO years only.
1. Report cards > does not apply for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
2. Attendance records > does not apply for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
3. Behavior/discipline records/inter-office correspondence record- or a print out from their online system showing "no data". > does not apply for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
4. 504/IEP: If your student has or had a 504 or IEP plan, a fully executed signed copy of the report should be submitted.

Who can apply for a School of Choice Permit?
Any student living in the boundaries of LVUSD may apply. This includes students who live outside the district and were previously released from their home district in a prior year and have been permitted to attend LVUSD.
You do not need to submit a School of Choice Application if you are planning to attend your neighborhood school. To determine your neighborhood school, please use the Find your School tool. Please note: Buttercup Preschool does not accept permits.

School of Choice Application Notes

If you are not already enrolled or have not been previously enrolled, Enroll HERE at your home school. You can find your home school HERE.
- If approved, the School of Choice permit will be in effect for the duration of the student’s years at the approved school site.
- In order to change schools again, a new application must be submitted. This includes returning to the home school.
- Mid-year transfers are not available after the start of the school year.
- Home to school transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
- Any student attending a school in the Las Virgenes Unified School District on a permit is required to carpool. Click HERE to go to Carpool Connection.
- Please note that upon approval of your School of Choice application, you forfeit your student’s space at your neighborhood school. If you cancel your application before the start of the school year and space is no longer available at your neighborhood school, you will remain assigned to your school of choice until space is available at your neighborhood school.

Incoming Interdistrict
This permit is for families who reside outside of LVUSD boundaries
and wish for their student(s) to attend a LVUSD school. Many LVUSD
schools are at full capacity. While we will make every effort to
accommodate your request to enroll at a specific school, we will
also ask that you select a second choice, in the event that your
preferred school has reached capacity.
How do I apply for an Interdistrict Incoming Permit?
LVUSD is no longer accepting permit applications for the 24-25 school year. If you feel you have extenuating circumstances, you can email your request to permitinfo@lvusd.org and we will review requests on a case by case basis.

REQUIRED - Outgoing Release Information
Students who wish to leave their home school district and enroll in LVUSD, must apply for a release from their Home District (not the school). This application must be submitted to your district of residence for a signed approval. Please check your home district website for information on outgoing permits or review the links below to request a release.
*After a family is approved for a permit by LVUSD, they must also obtain a release from their district of residence to complete enrollment.
Outgoing release from your Home District (not school) must be received within 30 days of the LVUSD approval or within 30 days of when the Home District permit window opens.

Acceptable reasons for Interdistrict transfer outgoing release include: parent employment (minimum 15 hours per week) within the school boundaries, sibling currently enrolled, child care, specialized program and continuing education.

OR If self-employed, send all that apply: an office lease, a letter on business letterhead verifying location of employment, a copy of a valid current business license (not applicable for the City of Calabasas) and/or the following: business card, website link, tax information, 1099, W2 or tax registration certificate.
What additional documentation should be submitted when applying for Child Care?
Please include your Permit Request Number on ALL communication sent to the District.
If using child care as your reason for permit transfer, please provide child care information that is located within LVUSD boundaries.
- Letter from the adult, center, or organization providing child care
- Name, address and contact information of the adult, center or organization located within LVUSD boundaries.
- Child care license number and fees, if applicable
- Hours of operation for the center or organization, or hours that the student is under care
- Length of time student has been under care by the adult, center or organization
- Letter from parent/guardian explaining the circumstances that an interdistrict permit is necessary under child care reasons
- Drivers license with home address within LVUSD boundaries.

Do we need to reapply for Interdistrict Transfer every school year?
When might a permit be revoked?
A student's Interdistrict permit may be immediately revoked at any time due to non-adherence of Stipulated Terms and Conditions. These terms include maintaining positive attendance and/or excessive tardiness, demonstrating sufficient academic progress, no truancies, no discipline, no disruption of the educational program, no change in student's residency and other conditions that would render continuance inadvisable.

If using a Specialized Program: please submit a detailed letter outlining the reason for your departure. Please include explicit details about the specialized program course not offered by LVUSD. This should include a detailed written comparison between the two schools that includes website links. (Example: Course details, website, brochure) This will help in the consideration of your request. Approvals will be contingent upon proof of enrollment in specialized programs.
