 Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!  

My name is Jessica Marshall and I am thrilled to be your newest Principal.  I am joining the YB family after being the Assistant Principal at Lindero Canyon Middle School.  Before that, I was an elementary educator for 17 years in Thousand Oaks.  I enjoyed teaching all levels from Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade.  I am bilingual and biliterate in Spanish.  In my free time I love to hike, exercise, read books, see live music and performances, and be at the beach.  My husband Jonathan and I have three children: Mia, who is in 8th grade, and twins Andrew and Olivia who are in 4th grade.  We have two energetic dogs named Tanner and Max who keep us very busy and active.

This year we will continue to build upon our kindness program across our campus and community. School safety is also a top priority and we will be enhancing security by ensuring all campus access points are closed and updating some fencing so that all visitors are directed to enter campus through the main office. We look forward to continuing our amazing arts program with a full-time art teacher to enhance our visual and performing arts integration for all students. Our guiding monthly themes will be: having a positive mindset, building autonomy and independence, having persistence and grit, developing collaborative communities, empathy and understanding, as well as mindfulness and thoughtfulness.  Additionally, our team values the implementation of depth and complexity for all students to maximize learning in the most rigorous way.  

Safety and a positive school climate is a top priority for YB. I look forward to working together with each of our students, staff members, and families to ensure our campus is a fun and safe place to learn. Additionally, character development and focusing on the whole child is very important here at YB.
