Mariposa/Sumac Library Catalog (Search catalog to find books in the library)

The Library Media Center is a place where students learn to:

    • love literature
    • use the many information sources available to them

    What are the library hours?

    Day Time
    Monday 8:30 to 2:00
    Tuesday 8:30 to 2:00
    Wednesday 8:30 to 1:00
    Thursday 8:30 to 2:00
    Friday 8:30 to 1:00

‍When do students visit the Library?

The LMC is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students are welcome in the library during these hours.

All classes at Sumac and Mariposa visit the Library Media Center once a week or once every two weeks for a half hour to participate in an information literacy lesson and to check out books. During this time, Mrs. Lovely reads a story to the students in K-3 grade and they are permitted to check out books.  Fourth and Fifth Graders learn about library media centers, do research, check out books and have silent reading time.

As needed and in response to the needs of the classroom teachers and their students, additional blocks of time are scheduled to work on information and/or research skills tied to their curriculum.

How many books can I check out?

All students may check out books, periodicals, books on tape, and books on CD from the library. Staff may check out books, videos, DVDs and periodicals.

Students in grades K and 1 may borrow one book at a time

Students in grades 2 may borrow up to two books at a time

Students in grade 3-5 may borrow up to three books at a time.

Parents may borrow five books under their own name.

    When are books due?

Materials are checked out for one week at a time for grades K-5 and can be renewed for an additional week. Students must bring the book that that they wish to renew in to the library.

What happens if I have an overdue book or a lost/damaged book?

Lost books must be paid for in order to clear student records and allow them to check out another book. Students will be asked to send money for lost and damaged items depending on the repair or replacement cost. Cash or checks made out to LVUSD are accepted for payment. If a lost book is found, a refund may be requested if a new book has not already been purchased.

If a student has overdue materials, his or her borrowing privileges will be suspended until the overdue materials are returned. Students do not need to wait until their "library day" to return or to check out books.

    Who works in the Library?

Kathy Lovely is the Sumac and Mariposa Library Media Clerk. This is her fourteenth year here. She has a BA in Health Education and has worked as a legal secretary, educational materials specialist for a non-profit, and ran a home business for medical transcriptionist.

This year each teacher has one or more parent volunteers who will accompany the class and assist during library visits.

Can parents help out in the Library?

Yes! We are always looking for Library volunteers.  Besides assisting with a class visit, we have A.M. Library Media Center volunteers.  These specially trained volunteers will help ready the LMC for the day by checking in all returned library books and shelving as much as possible.
