Ms. Dawn Thomas brings over two decades of experience in public education, including, most recently, 18 years of service to the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Throughout her career, Ms. Thomas has held a variety of roles that reflect her passion for inclusive and equitable education. She has taught mathematics in both general education and special education settings, served as a multiple subjects teacher in special education, and co-taught in secondary classrooms.
Her leadership journey includes serving as an instructional coach, assistant principal, director and executive director of special education. She now serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for the Las Virgenes Unified School District, where she leads with a student-centered approach to ensuring access, opportunity, and support for all learners.
Ms. Thomas is an active contributor to the broader educational community and has presented at numerous conferences for organizations such as the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and the Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPA) on topics including “Addressing Attendance” and “Strategic Planning for Inclusion”. Her work has been recognized with honors such as the Norma Minch Anderson Leadership Award and Teacher of the Month.
Ms. Thomas holds a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education and a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Special Education. She also holds a Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development Certificate, an Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Level II), and an Administrative Services Credential.
Ms. Thomas values the opportunity to continue the fostering of inclusive educational environments and shaping of student outcomes across the Las Virgenes Unified School District.
