We continue to remain in close communication with our County Fire Officials, law enforcement and area school districts as we monitor the high winds and fires in the surrounding area. All LVUSD schools are open and unaffected by nearby fires., but if anything changes, please monitor your email and LVUSD social media for updates and information. Please be patient with staff, as a number of them live in Ventura County and may be impacted or have family, impacted by the fires and smoke. Thank you for taking extra time and care when driving to school.
LV Reads During Winter Break! 'Tis the Season! Winter recess is a great time for cozying up with a new book. Reading books stimulates children's imaginations and expands their understanding of the world. It also helps students develop language and listening skills, which prepare them to better understand what they will learn in school. Our Winter 2017 LV Reads Edition offers some great suggestions for students who want to keep learning over the break. In this list, we offer four book selections for students in each of our reading categories ranging from beginning reader to young adults. We also highlight books that promote a positive mindset, one of LVUSD's Student 360 goals. Print this list or save it on your phone. Use it for gift ideas, library book wish lists, or to start your own list! In conjunction with Winter LV Reads, Barnes & Noble Thousand Oaks will hold a special LVUSD book fair December 6-9. The store will donate a percentage of sales to our schools, so make sure you tell them LVUSD sent you!

Service learning is the modern version of “community service”. Service Learning is a graduation requirement that allows student the opportunity to engage with the local and even global community. The Las Virgenes Unified School District believes giving back to and learn from the community is an important part of a child’s educational and emotional development.
