Daily Bulletin for Monday, January 30, 2023
CLUB NEWS: The Book Club will meet today in Mr. Miller’s room, E102; the Creative Writing Club will meet in Ms. Kargari’s room, F214.
ATTETION ALL STUDENTS: Today we celebrate the Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution. Mr. Korematsu was an American citizen who was arrested then relocated during World War II because he was of Japanese heritage. He and the American Civil Liberties Union challenged the relocation policy and took the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. In October 1944 the Supreme Court ruled against him, but in 1988, the decision was overturned. In the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, the U.S. government publicly apologized for unfairly imprisoning innocent Japanese Americans. They provided up to $20,000 to each living survivor of the World War II relocation centers. In 1998 President Bill Clinton awarded Fred Korematsu the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Stop by the library to find books about this time in our history.
ALSO, STUDENTS: Please check at home for any library books you checked out and forgot to turn in. We want everything back for a fresh start to the new semester. Remember, IDs are required for the self-checkout station. Additionally, we will be cutting down on overcrowding in the library before school. You are welcome to come in and sit, but if all the seats are full, you'll have to wait for the first bell outside of the library. Those who are standing will be asked to leave. Thank you to those library users who are always kind and respectful to other library users.
