Preschool / TK / Kindergarten
Las Virgenes Unified School District offers wonderful opportunities for our youngest students, starting at age 3. Please read carefully to learn about the different levels.
Buttercup Preschool
Located on the campus of Yerba Buena Elementary School in Agoura Hills, Buttercup Preschool is a model program that serves 3-4 year old students. Typically developing peers learn side by side with children who have special needs. Enrollment is limited, and tuition is charged for general education students. Please see our preschool website for information about tuition, referrals, and our waiting list.
Transitional Kindergarten (Formerly "Journeys")
Students must now be 5 years old by September 1st of the school year to start Kindergarten. For the 2023-2024 school year, students who turn 5-years-old between September 2nd and April 2nd are eligible for the TK program. TK provides a standards-aligned curriculum that is age- and developmentally-appropriate and paced to meet younger students’ individual needs. At Sumac, this program is done in both Spanish and English. Families who wish to enroll their child in a TK program at a school other than their home school must fill out a School of Choice application by the February SOC deadline. Following a year in the TK program, most students will enter a traditional Kindergarten program. More information can be found on our enrollment website.

Kindergarten
Each elementary school in LVUSD has two or more traditional Kindergarten classes. Sumac LSTEM Elementary offers a 50/50 dual language immersion program in English and Spanish. Students must be five years old by September 1st of the school year. Enrollment is required for students who live in the district. Please visit your neighborhood school for a Kindergarten tour and an enrollment packet starting in January. Families who live outside our district may apply for a permit; enrollment is granted for qualifying students depending on space.
