Assistant Superintendent of Business
Karen Kimmel has served the District since 1998, and was appointed to Assistant Superintendent of Business in spring of 2012. Ms. Kimmel previously served the District in the roles of Chief Business Official and Finance Director. Ms. Kimmel began her career as an auditor with Deloitte and Touche where she earned her license as a Certified Public Accountant. After three years in public accounting, Ms. Kimmel worked in private industry for 10 years in the capacities of comptroller and vice president of finance. She received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from California Lutheran University, graduating cum laude, and is a graduate of the FCMAT CBO Mentor certification program.
Ms. Kimmel serves as a board member on the Agoura Hills Redevelopment Oversight Agency and the Alliance of Schools for Cooperative Insurance Programs, and holds the role of Treasurer for both the Schools Linked for Insurance Management Joint Powers Authority and the California Statewide Delinquent Tax Financing Authority. She is a member of California Association of School Business Officials, School Business Executives, California Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs and National Charity League.
Ms. Kimmel is a long time community member with a daughter who is a graduate of the Las Virgenes Unified School District.
The mission of the Business Department is to provide the infrastructure to support the delivery of the educational process, and in turn, to help every student be successful. The areas of Accounting, Budgeting, Child Nutrition, Construction, Employee Benefits, Facilities Management, Maintenance & Operations, Payroll, Purchasing and Warehouse are all components of this infrastructure.
