REFERRAL PROCESS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL GIFTED SELF-CONTAINED CLASSROOMS
BELOW ARE THE STEPS THAT MUST BE COMPLETED FOR APPLICATION TO THE SELF-CONTAINED GIFTED CLASSROOM AT A. E. WRIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL
- Referral for admission to the self-contained gifted program is made by parents after they've reviewed the "Characteristics of Gifted Students - Self-Screening" form. The self-screening process asks parents to carefully consider the appropriateness of the program for their child based on the characteristics of gifted students as identified by the California Association for the Gifted (CAG).
- Parents must then complete the GATE Online Application Form to schedule a test.
- Students whose parents refer them to the gifted classroom based on the CAG criteria, will also need to score 130 or higher on a District-administered intelligence test for admission. (Students whose scores fall within a standard error of measurement will still be considered for admission based on the referral of district staff using the CAG criteria).
Note: Students transferring into the district will also need to complete an IQ test. Prior status as "gifted" will not automatically qualify these students for the self-contained gifted program. Tests can be scheduled through the District Office after completeing the Parent GATE application form.
