The Safe and Sober event immediately following graduation ceremony. (NOT
DISNEYLAND!)
Grad-Nile is a parent sponsored, nonprofit event that offers the graduating
class an opportunity to celebrate without the use of any illegal substances.
This event was started in 1991 to provide a safe and sober party on what
is statistically a “high riskt’ night for our children.
Parents fund raise, plan and run this event. It is an ALL NIGHT
lock down party for approximately 500-550 AHS GRADUATING SENIORS.
The students return to school by 9:15pm the night of Graduation (that’s
correct, NO time for a family dinner after the ceremony!)
to start their journey. They do not know where the event is held or what
the theme is. After they have been checked in by security, they board
buses with only their key and Student ID (NO
purses, wallets, backpacks, cell phones, extra keys or the likes are allowed
on the buses). Then they are taken to a “secret” location
that is generally within 30 minutes of the high school.
When they arrive, they find a warehouse or space that has been transformed
into an amusement park. There are large inflatable games, video arcade
games, a casino, pool & ping-pong tables, live DJ and dancing, food
and many other fun activities. They can win tickets to enter drawings
for many great prizes throughout the event. The theme and theme related
props help to create an atmosphere that is unique to this particular class
and gives the event more impact. They spend what we know will be a fun
filled and unforgettable night with their fellow graduates. Then, they
return to the school on the buses around 5am the next morning.
All of this has to be delivered within a given budget both in dollars
(the sky is the limit) and in manpower (it takes ALL
of us). The more you help, the better the party will be. We need all the
hands on help you have to offer to make this a night they will never forget!
